The TSA lines were as bad as the news made it out to be. Plane to Germany leaves in a few hours.

Is the Seven Continents lounge still open? It used to be a great place to have a drink and watch the planes. It was in the round section at the top of Concourse G. Of course, it’s been more than 20 years since I was there. I used to fly through that airport pretty regularly in the 70s.

What’s your destination in Germany?

I use to frequent the USO lounge in O’Hare back in the 80s, but that’s a little different. Still, free punch and cookies and a comfy chair to sit in shouldn’t be discounted.

So how long was the security line wait? I dropped a friend off last week at the international terminal and I couldn't even see the end of the security line. She flies on a staff ticket so the airline counter staff took her through some secret employee queue and bypassed the line. I am there 4-5 times a year and the wait line must have been 15 times longer than I have ever seen it.

I found a short line at the end of the check in terminal and it was 30 minutes. But the bigger lines for more populated parts of the terminal were at least twice as long.

I’m flying to Seattle next month, really hoping things are cleared up a bit by then.

Cool, work related or fun? I spent two weeks in Germany last summer with my wife :-D, and my mother in law :-(. We had a great time, everyone was super nice and treated us awesome. We were lucky and got to stay there with the family of my wife’s foreign exchange classmate.

Both. I’m working an internship for most of my time there and then taking two weeks to backpack around the continent.

Awesome, have fun. And enjoy the great beer. I really liked bitburger and Astra, but pretty much every beer I tried there was great compared to the hoppy stuff that is all the craze now.

For a while they were piloting this thing in Seattle - they had K9s walking the line, then it was pre-9/11 security. Leave your shoes on, metal detectors instead of those !@#!ing scanners. The sniffer dog/metal detector combo offers a hell of a lot more security and moves the line way faster. So obviously we can’t have that.

Also airports with private screeners (SFO) are more efficient (and better at finding prohibited items) than TSA screeners. These lines are just an obvious sign of how incompetent the agency is.

Mother’s Day went through ORD in the afternoon. Waited 45 minutes during a light travel time. So I believe the long lines.
